Checklist For  A Successful Drug Addiction or Alcoholism Intervention

After putting the finishing touches on the plan to get your loved one into a treatment program, you must be certain you have all bases covered.  Here is a checklist of items that must be completed before you proceed with the actual intervention:

1.  You have thoroughly researched alcoholism, addiction and intervention.

2.  You have beaten your fear of the intervention.

3.  You have assembled an intervention group made up of concerned people who the alcoholic/addict respects.

4.  You have met with the intervention group to prepare for the intervention  and  explained the importance of the intervention to this group.

5.  You have made a list of situations where the alcoholic/addict displayed erratic and/or destructive behavior

6.  You have planned for and are ready to respond to any objections raised by the alcoholic/addict during the intervention

7.   You have chosen a great treatment program for the alcoholic/addict.

8.  You have arranged transportation to the treatment facility or detox center

While the above may seem rather overwhelming, it is not as tough as it may seem.    If you don't do something, your loved one's addiction  is bound to get worse and recovery becomes much tougher.  The  intervention process usually is the only way to get an alcoholic/addict help.

Important note: if you have someone else perform the intervention on your loved one, you need to be sure that they have also prepared for the intervention properly.  Nobody’s perfect!
